- Sheriff’s Department – The Box Butte County Sheriff’s Department, located in Alliance, is staffed by a sheriff and 26 employees, five of which are certified law enforcement officers. Two deputies are available in Hemingford.
- State Patrol – Troop E of the Nebraska State Patrol is headquartered in Scottsbluff and serves 11 counties. There are multiple troopers patrolling the surrounding areas.

Fire protection is provided in Hemingford by a 30-member volunteer fire department. Although the Rural Fire Protection District buys and maintains their own equipment, the District is operated by the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department.
